Bis(cyclopentadienyl)zirconium(IV) Dichloride or zirconocene dichloride is one of numerous organo-metallic compounds (also known as metalorganic, organo-inorganic and metallo-organic compounds) sold by American Elements under the trade name AE Organo-Metallics™. As is the case for other transition metal metallocenes, bis(cyclopentadienyl)zirconium(IV) dichloride is most often used as a catalyst. Zirconium, titanium, and hafnium metallocenes may all serve as Ziegler-Natta catalysts in the synthesis of alkene polymers such as polyethylene, the most commonly produced type of plastic;l bis(cyclopentadienyl)zirconium(IV) dichloride can also serve as a catalyst in a variety of other specialized organic chemical reactions, including the conversion of enyenes to bicyclic cyclopentenones, and can be used to produce related specialized catalysts such as Schwartz’s reagent (zirconocene hydrochloride, or bis(cyclopentadienyl)zirconium chloride hydride). Other applications include vinyl monomre polymerization, serving as a curing agent for certain silicones, and zirconium metal electroplating.
