About

High Purity (99.999%) Holmium (Ho) MetalHolmium Metal is available as as disc, granules, ingot, pellets, pieces, powder , rod, sputtering target, wire, and in numerous other forms and custom shapes. American Elements produces to many standard grades when applicable, including Mil Spec (military grade); ACS, Reagent and Technical Grade; Food, Agricultural and Pharmaceutical Grade; Optical Grade, USP and EP/BP (European Pharmacopoeia/British Pharmacopoeia) and follows applicable ASTM testing standards. Typical and custom packaging is available. See safety data and research below and pricing/lead time above. Ultra high purity and high purity forms also include metal powder, submicron powder and nanoscale, quantum dots, targets for thin film deposition, pellets for evaporation and single crystal or polycrystalline forms. Elements can also be introduced into alloys or other systems as fluorides, oxides or chlorides or as solutions. Holmium metal is generally immediately available in most volumes. Holmium has the highest magnetic moment (10.6 B) of any naturally occurring element and has been used to create the highest known magnetic fields as a pole piece or magnetic flux concentrator. American Elements produces to many standard grades when applicable, including Mil Spec (military grade); ACS, Reagent and Technical Grade; Food, Agricultural and Pharmaceutical Grade; Optical Grade, USP and EP/BP (European Pharmacopoeia/British Pharmacopoeia) and follows applicable ASTM testing standards. Typical and custom packaging is available. Additional technical, research and safety (MSDS) information is available as is a Reference Calculator for converting relevant units of measurement.

Holmium Bohr ModelThe number of electrons in each of Holmium's shells is [2, 8, 18, 29, 8, 2] and its electron configuration is [Xe] 4f11 6s2. Elemental Holmium PictureThe holmium atom has a radius of 176 pm and its Covalent radius is 192±7 pm. Holmium was first discovered by Marc Delafontaine in 1878. In its elemental form, holmium has a silvery white appearance. It is relatively soft and malleable. It is stable in dry air at room temperature but rapidly oxidizes at elevated temperatures and in moist air. Holmium has unusual magnetic properties. Its name is derived from the Latin word Holmia meaning Stockholm.

Free Test Sample Program

We recognize many of our customers are purchasing small quantities directly online as trial samples in anticipation of placing a larger future order or multiple orders as a raw material for production. Since our primary business is the production of industrial quantities and/or highly consistent batches which can be used for commercial production and purchased repeatedly in smaller quantity, American Elements offers trial samples at no charge on the following basis. Within 6 months of purchasing materials directly online from us, you have the option to refer back to that order and advise that it is the intention of your company, institution or lab to either purchase a larger quantity, purchase the material in regular intervals or purchase more on some other basis.

We will then evaluate your future needs and assuming the quantity or number of future purchases qualify, we will fully credit your purchase price with the next order. Because of the many variables in the quantity and number of orders you may place, it is impossible to evaluate whether your future order(s) will qualify for this program prior to your placing your next order. Please know American Elements strongly desires to make this free sample program available to you and will make every effort to do so once your next order is placed.
