Products include medical grade titanium alloys, surgical steel, cobalt-chromium based alloys, precious metal alloys, and ceramic materials.

Implant alloys are typically derived from three materials systems: stainless steels, and titanium alloys. Cobalt-chromium based alloys and (aluminum oxide or zirconium oxide) are employed in making orthopedic implants.

The development of new medical implant technologies has been accompanied by an equally important development of the advanced materials used in their construction. Abrasion resistance, fatigue strength, hardness and damage tolerance all play critical roles in the acceptability of new potential metallic or ceramic material.

The Innovation

American Elements has been working with medical device and implant manufacturing to develop alloys and ceramic materials to meet this need as well as the production processes to meet strict FDA standards.

The Result

Several new materials are just being launched for use including a titanium-aluminum-vanadium alloy prepared in a novel composition as a next generation coronary implant structural material.
