Sodium(Na) atomic and molecular weight, atomic number and elemental symbolSodium is a Block S, Group 1, Period 3 element. The number of electrons in each of Sodium's shells is 2, 8, 1 and its electronic configuration is [Ne] 3s1. In its elemental form sodium's CAS number is 7440-23-5. The sodium atom has a radius of 185.8.pm and it's Van der Waalsradius is 227.pm. Sodium is not toxic but skin contact may cause irritation and burns. Sodium is primarily used in its metallic form in the production of Sodium Bohr Modelchemical esters and in the manufacturing of various other organic compounds. The metal is used in the alloy of tin, nickel and copper for its structural characteristics. Sodium is availableas metal and compounds with purities from 99% to 99.9999% (ACS grade to ultra-high purity); metals in the form of foil, sputtering target, and rod, and compounds as submicron and nanopowder. High purity sodium compounds are used as reducing agents. Sodium compounds are used in low tech applications throughout industry. Sodium was first discovered by Sir Humphrey Davy in 1807. The name Sodium comes from the Latin word "natrium" which means sodium carbonate. See Sodium research below.

Iridium(Ir) atomic and molecular weight, atomic number and elemental symbolIridium is a Block D, Group 9, Period 6 element. The number of electrons in each of Iridium's shells is 2, 8, 18, 32, 15, 2 and its electronic configuration is [Xe] 4f14 5d7 6s2. In its elemental form iridium's CAS number is 7439-88-5. The iridium atom has a radius of 135.7.pm and it's Van der Waals radius is 200.pm. Iridium is only slightly toxic. Iridium is a member of the platinum group of metals. It is the most corrosion resistant metal known. It will not react Iridium Bohr Modelwith any acid and can only be attacked by certain molten salts, such as molten sodium chloride. It is alloyed with platinum to produce highly corrosive resistant electrical Elemental Iridiumcontacts for spark plugs. Iridium is available as metal and compounds with purities from 99% to 99.999% (ACS grade to ultra-high purity); metals in the form of foil, sputtering target, and rod, and compounds as submicron and nanopowder. Iridium information, including Technical Data, Safety Data and its high purity properties, research, applications and other useful facts are discussed here. Iridium was first discovered by Smithson Tennant in 1804. See Iridium research below.
